ILLNESS POLICY
We all understand that people get sick, but, to try to keep illness to a minimum we follow the below mention policy. Also, please don't take it personally if your child is refused entry to school if I believe they are sick. It is not to hurt feelings, or to insult your or your child, but it is to maintain everyones health. Furthermore, unless you have a doctors not stating your child has allergies, such as hay fever, I will assume they have a cold and I will not allow them in our school. Please make other back up arrangements in advance to spare us both the hurt feelings at the door. We try very hard to make our school an "Illness Free Zone" by sterilizing, hand wash and practicing good hygene. If your child is ill he or she doesnt need me, she needs her parent and rest to feel better.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES will parents be allowed to bring a sick child to my family daycare home. A sick child should be allowed to recover fully after an illness so that other children in my home do not risk exposure, and so that your child is able to fully participate in childcare activities. If you are unable to remain at home with your sick child, it will be necessary for you to make substitute childcare arrangements at your own expense. Ill children expose other children, as well as me, to the spread of their illness and require additional care and attention I am unable to give. Furthermore, sick children want care from their parents in the comfort of their own homes. If other children become ill due to exposure to your sick child, either because he/she was returned to my daycare home before full recovery, or because he/she was not picked up promptly upon notice of becoming ill, other parents will be unnecessarily inconvenienced. If my family or I become ill due to exposure to a sick child, all of the daycare children may need to seek alternate care while my family recovers. This is disruptive to the children. Cooperation is extremely important on this issue. If I am sick I cannot provide care. If I become sick I cannot provide care for children. Obviously, it will not be possible to avoid the spread of all infectious illnesses. However, minimizing exposure and providing good hygienic procedures in my daycare home are the only means by which we can limit the problem and resulting inconvenience. Accordingly, THE FOLLOWING POLICIES WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL INVOLVED IN MY FAMILY DAYCARE HOME:
Children who have exhibited any symptoms of infectious illness WITHIN 24 HOURS PRIOR TO ARRIVING AT MY DAYCARE HOME are likely to be contagious and should remain at home. Examples of associated symptoms include, but are not limited to:
· fever of 100.6 measured orally or 100F measured rectally;
· nausea or vomiting;
· diarrhea;
· sore throat; loss of voice;
· hacking or continuous coughing;
· rapid breathing or labored breathing;
· severe cold;
· stiff neck;
· runny nose (yellow or green discharge);
· draining eyes or ears;
· yellowish skin or eyes;
· rash;
· lice;
· contagious illness of any sort;
· and/or too ill to participate in daily activities.
I reserve the right to determine whether a child should remain in my daycare home when illness is a consideration.
MY DAYCARE HOME IF ANY OF THE LISTED SYMPTOMS ARE PRESENT OR HAVE BEEN PRESENT WITHIN THE LAST 24 HOURS. Please do not mask your child's symptoms by administering TYLENOL or any other type of medication. Medications wear off within 3 to 4 hours, and by that time, your child will have exposed everyone in my daycare home to his/her illness.
If a child displays any of the above symptoms while in care, I will remove the child from the group and notify the parent or authorized adult to pick up the child. Parents/authorized adults have ONE HOUR from time of notification to pick up the child. NO EXCEPTIONS, late fees will be charged if you pick up after 1 hour after you are notified to pick up your child.
· The child may return 24 hours after a temperature has returned to normal, 24 hours after the child is no longer vomiting, or 24 - 48 hours, depending upon the illness, after the first dose of an antibiotic.
· Unless circumstances make it impossible or strict adherence to parental instructions would result in a life-threatening situation, medical emergencies will be handled as agreed to by the parents on the Emergency Medical Release Form.
· You must provide a note from your child’s pediatrician stating your child has allergies, otherwise your child may not be allowed in school with a runny nose, also bring tissues for your child.
***If your child need’s medicine, they don’t need to be in school, you need your rest at home to feel better asap.
